Favorite Palace: Facing the Garden with outside staircase, partially hidden by trees. In the foreground: pond. View towards the Palace.
The former Baroque palace garden gave way to an English landscape garden, which surrounds Favorite Palace. It offers views over meadows and ponds, visual axes and watercourses. Together with the pleasure palace and the Hermitage, it offers visitors the impression of a unique Baroque complex today.
The Hermitage (Eremitage) with the Chapel of Magdalena (Magdalenenkapelle) in the immediate vicinity of the palace was used by the Margravine as a spiritual retreat. This architectural jewel was built in 1717 by the architect of Favorite Palace as a central building.
In its center lies the devotional chapel of Saint Magdalena with a high bell tower. Five room segments, which were used for residential purposes, are grouped around this chapel. The mystical and somewhat gruesome character of the chapel is caused primarily by the wax figures of the Holy Family that bear a ressemblance to the features of the Margravine.
